Have you ever doubted the Lord? Have you ever doubted your salvation? Is that a normal experience for a Christian, or is that evidence of unbelief?
A recent study was conducted by the Pew Research Center, surveying the number of those in America that ascribe to having no religion. The fascinating discovery was this: the majority of nonreligious folk were former “Christians,” and were mainly under 35 years of age. Albeit there are plenty of reasons why many among the younger generation have abandoned their faith, there stands one predominant, overlying reason for this abandonment:
In this study, most [nonreligious people] said they no longer identified with a religious group because they no longer believed it was true. When asked why they didn’t believe, many said their views about God had “evolved” and some reported having a “crisis of faith.”
Six specific statements are prescribed by these young people to explain their actions and convictions:
“Learning about evolution when I went away to college”
“Religion is the opiate of the people”
